When I decide to have higher education overseas, I told myself that I should learn from the best
I never know what career I’m going to be live in the future when I was going to college. One thing that I am always sure is I found the excitement every time when I figured out the mystery behind structure of the compound. My interest to life science has been seen since I was elementary school student. Sometimes together with my father, we made small science experiment, like salt water egg experiment, to witness how the object sink and float.
As I have passion to synchronize chemistry and molecular biology that applied to improve the comprehension of plant growth and its resistance from the disease, I told to myself that I should learn from the best. I got full scholarship for master degree from Netherland Scholarship program in Wageningen University and Research which is the best University in the world in Agriculture and Forestry field. Then I have contract with Wageningen University as a Research Assistant / PhD employee. I am doing research Parasponia tropical plant which is the only one non-legume plant that has ability to symbiotic with rhizobia (nitrogen-fixing bacteria). This intracellular symbiotic will make plants fulfilled its Nitrogen need and not required inorganic fertilizer. Together with Molecular Laboratory Team in Wageningen University, we are trying to identify this special pathway and trying to answer a long standing question about the possibility to transfer this capability to other plants.
The molecular biology field that I am living now has only few enthusiasts especially among Indonesian scientists. For me, every science has its own challenge. Sometimes, there are factors that can make it easy and in some cases we need to do further research and even collaborate with other science.
I joined Pusat Teknologi Produksi Tanaman (PTPP) which is under Badan Pengkajian dan Penerapan Teknologi (BPPT), one of the non-ministerial government institution in Indonesia.
